Over the years I had several portable freezers/refigerators,in various sizes, mostly Norcold brand. We use them on trips to and from our house in Mexico, where we spend 6 weeks at a time. This MT45F-U1 is my first Engel purchase, and it went on its first trip right after we received it. All I can say is, that this unit meets and exceeds all my expectations. It gets cold very fast on 12 or 110 volt. The humming noise which some other users mentioned, in my view, is not worth mentioning, it is hardly noticable. The unit is built very rugged and is of excellent quality. came through on price and delivery. I needed the unit fast, as my old freezer gave out 3 days before my trip. I paid a few dollars extra for expedided delivery and received the unit as promised by and their supplier, even though it came all the way across the country. We ordered this fridge online and, while it was kind of a gamble buying such a large appliance from an online seller, it paid off in the end. The fridge itself is really great - looks and feels really well put together and fits our shallow 50s-era countertops so much better than a traditional fridge that would stick out a foot or more. It's taller than your average American fridge because it's so shallow, but we really like the way that changes the functionality: shallower shelves means no "losing" half-empty jars of tomatoes or unfinished hummus containers until they start growing mold ecosystems. It also, of course, means less storage than some folks might want, particularly in the freezer where you get one shelf, one full-size drawer, and one mini, half-size drawer. We knew this, but since our freezer generally contains only ice, a few random bags of frozen peas and blueberries, and maybe some ice cream or frozen baby food, we figured we'd be fine. If you like to buy in bulk or you want to store large frozen pizzas or something, this is probably not the fridge/freezer for you.

Re: purchase and delivery, we didn't really hear much from the sellers once we purchased the fridge and I did a bit of calling/tracking to try to figure out when it was going to be delivered (obviously, the freight company they use requires you to be at home to accept the delivery), but in the end it was mostly an easy and stress-free process. I think the biggest take-away was the question mark of not really knowing where it was or when it would arrive for a few weeks until the local delivery company had received it from the long-distance shippers. All in all, it took about a month or more to get this puppy, though that included the December holidays so things might have been extra slow. Set up was a cinch and the thing is on wheels so it was easy to roll into our kitchen and plug in! There are instructions for switching the swing of the door which we plan to do sometime soon, but it doesn't look like a quick process (you need to unload the fridge, tip it back, and mess with the wheels and feet as well as taking the doors and handles off). Last: I remember reading some stuff about noise problems with this or similar fridges, and for the record, I don't notice a noise problem at all. This is a great refrigerator, I was looking for a 24" refrigerator in stainless steel and this one fit the bill, I ordered it with the optional ice maker and it works great! I was a bit sceptical on downsizing fro a 20 cubic foot to a 10 cubic foot refrigerator but this one is so well designed everything fits and it looks great, it is real stainless steel, I reversed the doors myself it was a bit tricky but I was able to do it with a friend tipping it back in about 30 minutes. - Customer Reviews

I'm soon going to start building a custom Tear Drop Trailer From scratch. The kitchen will be the major focus, it will be my own version and totally custom to what I want in a camping kitchen. With a lot of thought and research, I felt as though I wanted a freezer in it rather than a fridge, I can build in a nice cooler as a fridge, keep things frozen and produce ice for the cooler. Researching a fridge of this size just was not worth the space. Not very dependable for just food. The cooler will be 3 times in vol. So, if your looking for a freezer of this size, this is it, it will not get warm enough to act as a fridge on low, it is still at zero degrees. This is exactly what I needed for my project. I can fill it full of ice cube trays and have ice in less than 30 min. Probably 12 trays, thats a bag of ice in the woods. I also have a portable ice maker. So, this would be a backup if needed. At high, it will go to a neg 20 degrees. Running a 12 volt system with ac inverters, space is a must. This is an awesome FREEZER, not a fridge combo. - Customer Reviews

I received this mini fridge for christmas 2 years ago. I wanted one with both a fridge and freezer so i could store frozen snacks as well as regular food. I've transported it back and forth between my school in LA and my home in Orange County about 5 times total and it still runs like new. It's quiet, has a lot of storage, and it looks great! I always get compliments from my friends about my awesome fridge. I couldn't have asked for a better one and its less than $200!!! If youre thinking about buying it, dont hesitate.
